description abstractThe results of six determinations of winds and temperatures in the 30?60-km level from acoustical studies are presented. The areas studied are: Canal Zone, January 1950; Hawaii, August 1950; Florida, October 1950; Canal Zone, November 1950; Bermuda, December 1950; and Florida, January 1951. The results establish more firmly the average seasonal and latitudinal trends of the high-altitude winds and temperatures reported earlier. The main features observed are the light winds in low-latitude continental areas during the winter, and the low temperatures and high winds over oceanic areas. A brief study of the errors involved in the determination of high-altitude winds and temperatures by acoustical methods is also presented.
