description abstractIn this paper the relationship between Himalayan summer snow cover area and withdrawal of the Indian summer monsoon from northwest India to 15°N of peninsular India is examined for the period 1971?81. A direct relation (correlation coefficient 0.62) between the two variables was found for most of the study period. The preliminary result indicated that extensive summer snow cover area was likely to be associated with longer withdrawal time.
