description abstractAs a complement to the study by Silverman et al, (1981, this issue), the relative variability of rainfall estimates was studied for randomly located gages. This simplistic model allows for more random variability than Silverman et al.'s model does. As a result, its calculations of variability are found to exceed those of the latter's study unless very few gages are used. The present study serves as an indirect verification of the preceding one as well as a generalization allowing for multiple raincells and further local variability.
