description abstractThree analytical procedures for the calculation of wave reflection from beaches are presented. The accuracy and stability of each procedure is determined with respect to tests results obtained in a laboratory environment. Tests were performed in a wave basin and a comparison of the three procedures is presented based on wave probe spacing, wave period, and wave length. It was determined that the wave probe spacing is the dominant influence on the accuracy of the results from the three procedures. However, the wave length was also determined to be an important parameter. All three procedures were quite sensitive to the value of the wave length and values determined from linear theory did not provide sufficient accuracy for these calculations.
