description abstractThe performance of steel angles is of great interest to the field of electrical transmission tower design. In a lattice structure, the most common type of member used is the single angle. In such an application, the angles are subjected to both tension and compression. The ultimate compressive load capacity of single steel angles subjected to eccentrically applied axial load is investigated in this paper. Seventy‐five full‐scale tests were done with data collected in the elastic, inelastic, and postbuckling regions of the member's performance. Test specimens were made of A36 steel angle sections connected to the end plate by bolts. The end plates were supported using a ball joint in an attempt to model end conditions that were unrestrained against rotation.
