description abstractIt is generally known that an eccentric circular disk cam actuating a flatfaced translating follower is an economical approximate function generator. The designer’s question is “Just how well can it approximate the function I have in mind?” The methodology presented herein will answer the question, “What is the best fidelity of which the concept is capable?” The methodology will enable the designer to assess whether he has the option of utilizing the concept or whether he must seek a different conceptual course of action.
