description abstractA method is presented that allows the rapid prediction of the fundamental frequency and mode shape for a power transmission system. It is based on a programming technique taken from the chemical literature. A sparse matrix procedure is shown which allows efficient programming of this method. A technique for eliminating the rigid-body rotation is illustrated. Numerical results are discussed.
