description abstractThe response of an infinite plate strip under an arbitrarily distributed transverse moving line load is determined. The line of application of the load is perpendicular to the infinite edges, and the load is assumed to propagate parallel to the infinite edges of the plate at constant speed. The problem is formulated as a boundary-value problem within the framework of a plate theory which includes the effects of shear deformation and rotatory inertia. A closed-form solution, in terms of elementary functions, is obtained for each harmonic component of the line load by the Fourier transform method in conjunction with contour integration.
