description abstractA procedure is presented for the design of a steel nuclear containment vessel subject to seismic loads. A design spectra representation of the loadings is used with a cantilever beam model of the vessel. The results for the beam model are compared with results from two independent shell analyses; a shell modal analysis and a nonlinear shell time history analysis. The beam results are shown to provide a good design correlation.
