| description abstract | Advances in the design and construction of steam turbines for the propulsion of ships growing out of current trends in the construction and operation of merchant ships, as distinct from naval vessels, are considered. The effects of increases in power and steam conditions, and changes in classification rules, are examined and assessed in relation to the turbines. New concepts and methods in design are discussed and experience with advanced designs is indicated. Some examples of actual details of construction developed to meet new conditions are presented. | |
