description abstractThis paper is devoted to the prime mover control aspects of some problems encountered by the U. S. Bureau of Reclamation with hydrogenerating units. The problems include governor instability, remote control of governor dashpot compensation, and control associated with overspeed following load rejections. First symptoms were often complicated by contributions from voltage regulators, relays, oil pumps, or tie-line control apparatus. Attention is directed to the components or effects principally responsible.
