description abstractIn this paper the influence of the 1950’s on the development of continuing management education by the universities is briefly discussed, the need for continuation of the successful executive educational programs so popular is established, and the difficulties faced by management and the universities in arriving at an effective and self-improving means of bringing to bear on continuing management education the much-needed competence of the universities in particular specialized areas is explored.
