description abstractThe size of a plate cam moving a translating, offset roller or knife-edged follower is sensitive to the magnitude of the offset. The designer should not omit the opportunity to reduce size and cost by establishing optimal offset. A suboptimization procedure is presented which will permit determination of minimum pitch circle radius rapidly, routinely, and without use of the digital computer.
