description abstractA simple, inexpensive technique of generating crack propagation data on rotating beam specimens of relatively small dimensions (1/2 in. dia by 3 in. long) has been developed. A recent solution for stress intensity factors on circumferentially notched round specimens [1]2 has made such data comparable with data generated by other specimen geometries. It is the purpose of this paper to develop this approach as an alternative method of generating crack propagation data. This technique should be especially useful for generating crack growth data approaching plane strain conditions under very low stresses where many cycles are required or for those materials where only small volumes are available as composites and powder metallurgy.
