description abstractA simple theory is given for unsteady lift on a flat-plate airfoil due to chordwise velocity perturbations. Horlock’s theory for a frozen gust pattern convected at the free-stream velocity is included as a special case, and a distinction is drawn between streamwise and chordwise velocity perturbations.
