description abstractA method is given for determining the effect of spacewise variations in a homogeneous, frozen, random load field on the response of a structure moving through the field. The proposed method is based on the determination of the response of the structure to a few simple deterministic loadings and does not require the use of multidimensional power spectral analysis. The method is applied to the analysis of the response of a beam moving first longitudinally and then transversely through the load field.
