description abstractIntegrated product and process design involves a dynamic environment where various design changes are made when the requirements of the different domains are not sufficiently met. Dealing with changes is a tedious and cumbersome process. To deal with design changes automatically, this paper presents the development of an adaptive fixture design system based on an evolutionary search algorithm. The system senses a change made to the workpiece model and automatically deals with the change. Conducted experiments reveal that the evolutionary search algorithm is efficient and effective in dealing with design changes adaptively.
