description abstractIn this paper the method of characteristics is used to provide a solution of the equations governing unsteady flow in natural gas pipelines. The validity of this approach is confirmed by comparison with experimental transients. The basic working equations are then adapted to a computation scheme which results in a transient control calculation procedure. The main emphasis is given to its use on gas piping networks.
