| description abstract | The tolerancing scheme attached to the print of a mechanical part is engineered to guarantee the functional aptitude of a part and its proper interaction with other parts in the assembly. At the manufacturing stage, the design datum reference system(s) (DRF) specified by the design tolerancing scheme may not constitute the most technologically or economically desirable or even feasible manufacturing datum reference frame(s). When substitute manufacturing datum reference frame(s) are selected, a tolerance transfer problem must be solved. This paper presents a mathematical optimization approach and solution to a subset of location tolerance transfer problems with DRF mobility of two, and three degrees of freedom. | |
