description abstractIn fluid-structure interaction problems, many studies are done by linear formulations. But severe loading may cause cavitation that shows nonlinear behavior. In handling cavitation phenomena, a displacement potential was introduced or density was used as the variable. Each method loses the conservation of liquid volume that is vital for liquid-filled tanks; mesh size should be the scales of cavitation. This paper proposes a simple method based on Lagrange multiplier method. A numerical example is shown for a one-dimensional problem together with a comparison to an experimental result.
