description abstractA derivation of a formula for computing the coefficient of friction in the cold rolling process is presented. A simplified model of the pressure distribution in the arc of contact is assumed. Since the location of the neutral point is essential in the analysis, a method is presented for determining it. Typical coefficients of friction are computed for data in the literature as well as unpublished data. Comparison is made with another derivation using analysis by Bland and Ford. In general, agreement is good between the computed coefficients and those fitting classical rolling theory.
