description abstractA finite element model of a suspension for read-write heads in disk drives is developed. The modelled vibration modes are compared with measurements and agree well in shape and frequency. The sway mode, of particular concern in disk drives with rotary actuators and laterally actuated suspensions, is investigated more thoroughly with regard to its sensitivity to stiffness, thickness, and shape of various parts of the load-beam.
