| description abstract | The topic of the paper has been focused on the physical behavior of rotors subjected to losses in the rotating mass and on developing methods for detection of the presence and the extent of changes in the rotor. The developed diagnostic techniques have been designed to utilize the vibration data collected during a normal operation and at a single running speed alone. One of the main concepts employed in the described procedures consists in isolation, observation, and processing of transient vibrations which follow a separation of mass. Several methods of extracting the transients from experimental data have been investigated and their advantages and limitations have been discussed. In order to study the mass loss phenomenon a special rotor-bearing system has been developed. The design allows frequent repetition of the mass release experiment. The paper contains detailed description of the mass release mechanism. An example of application of the experimental data for detection of the extent of changes in the rotor has been included. | |
