description abstractA mixed lubrication model applicable to the bearing/seal parts is presented which enables forecasts of both friction and flow rate. The model is based on the combination of the Greenwood-Williamson model for nonlubricated rough surfaces in contact and Patir and Cheng’s mean flow model. It introduces an adsorbed film model and includes effects of EHL and cavitation. Regardless of the assumptions introduced, the model agrees well with experimental results of parallel sliding surfaces lubricated with liquids ranging from mineral oils to water.
