description abstractBasic flow relationships are developed for three typical non-Newtonian lubricant models: the pseudo-plastic model, the circular viscoplastic model, and the ideal viscoplastic model. It is found that the conventional no-slip boundary conditions are inadequate to fully treat the latter two models. Conclusions regarding the appropriate boundary conditions for any viscoplastic model and the form of the resulting Reynolds equations are presented.
