description abstractThis paper presents a stress analysis of composite reinforced spherical shells with closed apex. The shell structure may be composed of an isotropic metal layer and a unidirectional composite layer. The analysis uses the load-sharing approach and assumes no shear transfer between layers. Analytical solutions for layered spherical structures which are subject to both mechanical and thermal loading are derived. Numerical results are presented. The difference in radii of the liner and the composite overwrap is taken into account.
