description abstractIn this study, a simple and computationally efficient procedure is introduced for determination of the strain distribution during the simulations of forming processes using model material techniques. Forward-backward extrusion process is analyzed by using FEM and the model material techniques. The strain fields obtained from both methods compared favorably with each other. The advantages and the limitations of the techniques are elucidated together with suggested recommendations.
