| description abstract | The surface strains on an initially flat plate bent to a cylindrical shape are considered and compared to the biaxial rupture strain limit of the material. A procedure for predicting the bending limit of a plate is developed which is based on the Ludwik law. An example is presented to illustrate the case of a typical severe bending operation in which surface strains approached the ductility without fracture of the formed plate. | |
