description abstractA systematic comparison of the detailed behaviors predicted by current constitutive models under various loadings and the actual behavior of austenitic steels under the same lodings was carried out. This comparison leads us to reject these models and to propose a new model whose predictions seem more realistic for these loadings: the unified multilayers model in which the material is represented by a composite of layers of various hardnesses. The details of the model are given in the paper.
