description abstractMany structures have curved panels with longitudinal, transverse, or orthogonal tee-stiffeners subjected to differential pressure, band loading, and axial and circumferential in-plane forces. Equations using energy methods are developed for the purpose of designing such cylindrical structures for minimum weight. The accuracy of the techniques is verified by excellent stress comparisons with finite-element methods. Minimum weight studies using a constrained optimization computer program are presented. Stress, deflection, stability, and minimum dimensional constraints are applied. Optimum weight designs are achieved rapidly and economically.
