description abstractIt is shown that the vertical motion due to flow over irregular terrain may be calculated from a simple formula in an atmosphere whose static stability is a function of pressure only. Some computations are presented to show the fall-off with height of this effect, and these results are compared with computations made from the standard differential equation.
