ASME ( American Society of Mechanical Engineers )
Description: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) is a professional association that, in its own words, "promotes the art, science, and practice of multidisciplinary engineering and allied sciences around the globe" via "continuing education, training and professional development, codes and standards, research, conferences and publications, government relations, and other forms of outreach." ASME is thus an engineering society, a standards organization, a research and development organization, a lobbying organization, a provider of training and education, and a nonprofit organization. Founded as an engineering society focused on mechanical engineering in North America, ASME is today multidisciplinary and global.

Modeling Uncertain and Dynamic Interdependencies of Infrastructure Systems Using Stochastic Block Models
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Modeling the resilience of interdependent critical infrastructure (ICI) requires a careful assessment of interdependencies as these systems are becoming increasingly interconnected. The interdependent connections across ...
Novel Quantitative Risk Assessment Interface for Fixed Offshore Oil and Gas Exploration Platforms
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Light, sweet crude oils are depleting, forcing oil and gas companies to explore and operate in increasingly deeper waters, remote geographical locations, and harsher environmental conditions with higher safety risks. This ...
Time-Dependent Reliability Model of Structures Under Different Stochastic Loads
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: This paper proposes the time-dependent reliability model of structures under different stochastic loads based on the stress–strength interference (SSI) model and probabilistic statistical theory. First, the different ...
Design for Interface Stiffness of Mechanical Products Using Integrated Simulation and Optimization Under Uncertainty
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Interface stiffness is an important factor influencing the performance of mechanical products. Uncertain factors affect the interface stiffness and stability in the process of product design, manufacture, and operation. ...
Reliability Analysis of Phased Mission Systems When Components Can Be Swapped Upon Failure
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: This paper proposes a new strategy to improve the reliability of phased mission systems (PMS), namely, by swapping of components. In the proposed strategy, when a component fails, it can be swapped by another one in the ...
A Base Study to Investigate MASH Conservativeness of Occupant Risk Evaluation
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: The manual for assessing safety hardware (MASH) defines crash tests to assess the impact performance of highway safety features in frontal and oblique impact events. Within MASH, the risk of injury to the occupant is ...
Statistical Volume Elements for the Characterization of Angle-Dependent Fracture Strengths in Anisotropic Microcracked Materials
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Statistical volume elements (SVEs) are used to homogenize fracture strength of rock, based on the microcrack statistics of a real-world Yuen-Long marble sample. The small size of SVEs enables maintaining inhomogeneities ...
On Digital Twins, Mirrors, and Virtualizations: Frameworks for Model Verification and Validation
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: A powerful new idea in the computational representation of structures is that of the digital twin. The concept of the digital twin emerged and developed over the last decade, and has been identified by many industries as ...
Longitudinal Seismic Response of Train–Bridge Interaction System With Slip in Moderate Earthquakes
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: This study assesses the seismic responses of viaduct structures in the Japanese high-speed rail system under moderate earthquake forces considering the slip between tracks and wheels. Equations of motion for the train–bridge ...
Advances in Bayesian Probabilistic Modeling for Industrial Applications
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Industrial applications frequently pose a notorious challenge for state-of-the-art methods in the contexts of optimization, designing experiments and modeling unknown physical response. This problem is aggravated by limited ...
