ASME ( American Society of Mechanical Engineers )
Description: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) is a professional association that, in its own words, "promotes the art, science, and practice of multidisciplinary engineering and allied sciences around the globe" via "continuing education, training and professional development, codes and standards, research, conferences and publications, government relations, and other forms of outreach." ASME is thus an engineering society, a standards organization, a research and development organization, a lobbying organization, a provider of training and education, and a nonprofit organization. Founded as an engineering society focused on mechanical engineering in North America, ASME is today multidisciplinary and global.

Assessing the Seismic Resilience of Power Grid Systems Considering the Component Deterioration and Correlation
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Electricity transmission systems are essential to a community's functionalities but are susceptible to the aggressive environmental or operational factors such as the natural hazards and the environment-induced component ...
Resilience Decision-Making for Complex Systems
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Complex systems—such as gas turbines, industrial plants, and infrastructure networks—are of paramount importance to modern societies. However, these systems are subject to various threats. Novel research does not only focus ...
Hindcasting Loss and Evaluating Implications of Track Location for the 2011 Joplin, Missouri Tornado
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: The direct physical loss from a tornado is one possible factor in considering resilience goals for a community. Estimating such loss has historically been achieved either through analysis of empirical data from historical ...
Reviewer's Recognition
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: The Reviewers of the Year Award is given to reviewers who have made an outstanding contribution to the journal in terms of the quantity, quality, and turnaround time of reviews completed during the past 12 months. The prize ...
Evaluating the Magnitude and Spatial Extent of Disruptions Across Interdependent National Infrastructure Networks
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Critical infrastructure networks are geographically distributed systems spanning multiple scales. These networks are increasingly interdependent for normal operations, which causes localized asset failures from natural ...
Understanding the Impact of Decision Making on Robustness During Complex System Design: More Resilient Power Systems
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Robust design strategies continue to be relevant during concept-stage complex system design to minimize the impact of uncertainty in system performance due to uncontrollable external failure events. Historical system ...
A Game-Theoretic Approach for Defending Cyber-Physical Systems From Observability Attacks
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Cyber-physical systems are engineered systems that rely on the integration of physical processes and computational resources. While this integration enables advanced techniques for monitoring and controlling systems, it ...
Reliability-Based Multifidelity Optimization Using Adaptive Hybrid Learning
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Most of the existing reliability-based design optimization (RBDO) are not capable of analyzing data from multifidelity sources to improve the confidence of optimal solution while maintaining computational efficiency. In ...
Parameter Estimation of Limited Failure Population Model With a Weibull Underlying Distribution
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: For many data-driven reliability problems, the population is not homogeneous; i.e., its statistics are not described by a unimodal distribution. Also, the interval of observation may not be long enough to capture the failure ...
Physics of Failure-Based Reliability Assessment for Systems Exposed to Sliding Wear Under Uncertainty
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: In this paper, a new model is proposed for system degradation evaluation under sliding wear failure mechanism. This model estimates the material loss with respect to progression of sliding distance. This model is generated ...
