description abstractThis paper chronicles a kinematic study of the lower spine. The synthesis of a four-bar mechanism to serve as an implanted appliance is shown. The device and the radio-logical technique for determining relative motion of vertebrae have not been clinically tested. This work was initiated to aid in diagnosis of ruptured disks and is offered as an alternative to fusion of vertebrae. It is recorded here for possible use by other investigators.
