description abstractThe influence of dissipative heating on the loss factor of a beam with a constrained viscoelastic layer is examined analytically and experimentally for the case in which the extensional stiffness of the constraining layer is large compared to the shear stiffness of the viscoelastic layer. It is shown that the loss factor may be substantially reduced by dissipative heating under these conditions.
